ONLINE APPLICATION INFORMATION It is recommended NCLEX® candidates begin the examination process by using the online application. This application is designed for all candidates (in-state and out-of-state graduates, internationally educated, first-time testers and repeaters). Eligibility and licensure requirements are listed in the Application and available for printing once you submit payment online. Go to "Quick Links>Online Applications & Services>Licensure by Exam". Complete the application and payment of fee. Select the Identification Document link, print the form, attach a passport type photo with a single staple (any photo that can be cropped to a 2"X2" picture with only the candidate visible in the picture showing head and shoulders - original photo, no copies), have the affidavit notarized and mail the form to the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Select the Eligibility and Licensure Requirements link, print the form for your records. Select the Pearson VUE (www.pearsonVUE.com/nclex) link to go to the testing service website and complete the NCLEX® registration with Pearson and payment of fee. Upon receipt of the Criminal Background Check (CBC) packet complete the forms as instructed and return in the provided envelope with the $38 payment.
In-state graduates will have verification of their nursing education sent to the NC Board of Nursing automatically. Out-of-state graduates need to contact the registrar to request that an official final transcript be sent directly to the NC Board of Nursing. The transcript must include the graduation date and degree information. Internationally educated nurses must complete an Education Evaluation before starting the application process. Candidates who have previously tested within the last two years through the NC Board of Nursing do not have to resubmit the education documentation. Once the application is processed an Authorization To Test (ATT) will be issued by Pearson. This ATT is used to schedule your exam date, time and location. PAPER APPLICATION INFORMATION If you cannot use the online application and require a paper application, please submit the following to ExamDept@ncbon.com: - Name and complete mailing address
- Name and location of your nursing program
- Date of graduation
- Type of exam (RN or LPN)
- Whether or not you have taken the NCLEX before and if so through which state
