I am listed as a Nurse Aide II. Do I have to renew my Nurse Aide I?
Yes, in order to be eligible for renewal of your nurse aide II, you must have a current Nurse Aide I with the NC Division of Health Service Regulation/Nurse Aide I Registry. If your Nurse Aide I has expired, please contact the Nurse Aide I Registry at (919) 855-3969 or www.ncnar.org.

I am listed as a Nurse Aide II and have not received my renewal form, what should I do?
Renewal forms are mailed 60 days prior to the expiration date of your current Nurse Aide II listing to the address on record with the Board of Nursing. If you do not receive your renewal form 60 days prior to expiration date, contact the Nurse Aide II Registry at (919) 782-7499 ext. 245.

Will I receive a card from the Nurse Aide Il Registry once I am listed or renew my Nurse Aide II?
Effective with nurse aide II listings renewed or reinstated with a January 31, 2007 expiration date and thereafter, a listing card will not be issued. Instead, a postcard notice of renewal will be mailed to your last known address on file with the Board of Nursing. The postcard contains specific directions to verify your licensure status either online atwww.ncbon.com or by using the automated telephone verification system at (919) 881-2272.

What if I need to change my name?
Submit a copy of a legal document showing your name change. Nicknames are not permitted. Examples of a legal document include social security card, court record, birth certificate, marriage license, driver’s license, etc.

How do I become a Nurse Aide II?
To list as a Nurse Aide II, you must have a current Nurse Aide I listing with no findings and complete a Board approved Nurse Aide II course. The Nurse Aide II course is offered at most community colleges and some private companies.

How do I maintain my Nurse Aide II listing?
To maintain your Nurse Aide II listing, you must work at least 8 hours every 24 month renewal period as a nurse aide under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Nurse Aide II Registry will mail a renewal form 60 days prior to the nurse aide expiration date. The Nurse Aide II renewal form must be completed by the Nurse Aide II and the supervising Registered Nurse.

I am a nursing student; can I list as a Nurse Aide II?
Nursing students wishing to list as a Nurse Aide II should contact the Program Director at their School of Nursing. The Program Director at each school determines at what point in the curriculum nursing students have covered the Nurse Aide II task requirements.

Can I challenge the Nurse Aide II to list as a nurse aide II?
There is no challenging of Nurse Aide II.

I am an EMT/Paramedic; can I challenge the Nurse Aide II?
EMT/Paramedics must complete the Nurse Aide II course. Some community colleges offer bridge programs for EMT/Paramedics to become Nurse Aide IIs.

I am a military corpsman; can I list as a Nurse Aide II?
Individuals must have completed the U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman Basic Class “A” course and they must have completed the Advancement Examination for Navy Hospital Corpsman Third Class. Individual must be listed as a NAI and not been discharged more than two years. Individuals that meet all the criteria listed should submit a copy of the following documents to the Nurse Aide II Registry for review:
- Copy of current Nurse Aide I listing.
- Copy of official military documentation indicating completion of Basic Corpsman class “A”.
- Copy of military documentation indicating rank of Third Class or higher.
- Copy of military documentation indicating discharge date (within two years) or current enlisted status.
