Medication Aide Curriculum

Re-Certification as RN Instructor

  1. Have a current, unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina or have multi-state licensure privilege
  2. The individual has taught at least one 24 hour medication aide training program within the preceding 2 years
  3. The individual successfully completes a review program approved by the Board

Process of applying for Med Aide Instructor Re-Certification to the NCBON

  • The NCBON will send a Re-Certification application to Certified Med Aide RN Instructor.
  • Complete the application. Please note, part of the re-certification requirement is to review Med Aide Program/Revisions/Updates. These can be viewed below.
  • Submit the application with $25 administrative fee to address on application.
  • The NCBON will send a certification letter, which includes the Instructor Identification Number, to Med Aide RN Instructor.

Re-Certification Process if Inactive or Have not Taught any Course within the Two Year Timeframe

If a Medication Aide RN Instructor or Master Teacher has been inactive for 2 years or more, or if the individual is currently certified but has not taught any course within the 2 year period, the RN Instructor or Master Teacher must repeat the 16-hour Medication Aide Instructor Course (taught by a currently certified Medication Aide Master Teacher) prior to re-approval as a Medication Aide Faculty.
