  1. I am attempting to register but it states that an account has already been created with the credentials specified?

    An account may already exist with your credentials because you previously registered on the Nurse Gateway. Exit the account registration page by selecting Cancel, then select Forgot Username to retrieve your correct username before resetting your password. 

  2. What if the username and password that I entered does not match any records?

    Have you registered on the Nurse Gateway previously? If not, select Enroll Now to register.

    If you have previously registered on the Nurse Gateway, attempt to retrieve your username and reset your password

  3. What if I can't remember my username?

    If you cannot remember your username, you can use the Forgot Username function to retrieve it. You will be prompted to key in your name, date of birth, mother's maiden name and social security number. If there is a positive match, an email containing your username will be sent to the address on record for your Nurse Gateway profile. If there is not a positive match, contact Support using the widget for additional assistance.

    Your secure password is NOT maintained by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. You can use your username to reset your password by using the Forgot Password function. You will be prompted to key in your username, first and last name as well as your date of birth and social security number.

    Your secure password is NOT maintained by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. You can use your username to reset your password by using the Forgot Password function. You will be prompted to key in your username, first and last name as well as your date of birth and social security number.

    If you cannot remember your username, you can use the Forgot Username function to retrieve it. You will be prompted to key in your name, date of birth, mother's maiden name and social security number. If there is a positive match, an email containing your username will be sent to the address on record for your Nurse Gateway profile. If there is not a positive match, contact Support using the widget for additional assistance.

  5. I am attempting to reset my password but it states that an account has not been created with the credentials specified?

    An account may not exist with your credentials. Exit the password reset page by selecting 'Cancel' and then select Enroll Now! to register.

    If you've already registered, attempt to retrieve your correct username before resetting your password. 

  6. I am attempting to register but it states that the information we have on record does not match - why is that?

    Be sure to check that your date of birth and/or social security number are entered correctly. Contact Support using the widget for additional assistance.

  7. How many characters should my username and password contain - and can I use special characters?

    Your username must contain at least 3 characters and your password must contain at least 6 characters.

    Special characters are not permitted within the username. Special characters are permitted within the password.

    A space is a special character.
  8. How do I renew-reinstate, request retired or inactive status for my license?

    To renew-reinstate, request retired or inactive status, log in to your Nurse Gateway profile and select the blue tile that says 'EXPIRING SOON!' or 'EXPIRED' which indicates your license under the 'Licenses/Approval to Practice/Certifications' tab. Select Renewal/ReinstatementRequest Inactive Status or Request Retired Status

  9. How do I access an application?

    To access an application, log in to your Nurse Gateway profile and then hover over Licenses/Certificates and a drop-down list of available applications will appear.

    In order to access the Live Scan application, hover over Background Checks and it will be available in the drop-down list.

    Live Scan is for North Carolina residents only
  10. How do I check the status of my application?

    To check the status of your application, log in to your Nurse Gateway profile and select the blue tile that says '(Pending)' which indicates your license under the Licenses/Approval to Practice/Certifications'/'Criminal Background Checks tabs. To check the status of your pending application, select the Application Status tab.

  11. How do I request a name or address change?

    Access the Name Change Application or the Address Change Application located under My Profile on the Nurse Gateway.

    Submit legal documentation* supporting your name change to the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

    *Examples of a supporting legal documentation include:
    • Social Security Card
    • Court Record
    • Birth Certificate
    • Marriage License
    • Driver's License
    • Voter Registration
    • Federal Income Tax Return

  12. How do I update my email address?

    To update your email address, log in to your Nurse Gateway profile and then hover over My Profile and a drop-down list containing the profile edit application will appear. Select Request Profile Change to change your email address.

  13. My portal indicates there are no licenses found but I am a licensed nurse/Nurse Aide II; What should I do?

    You have created a duplicate profile. Contact Support using the widget for further assistance.

  14. How can I access my license certificate to download or print?

    Newly licensed nurses may access their license certificate via the Nurse Gateway portal. To access, select the tile which indicates your license under the 'Licenses/Approval to Practice/Certifications' tab, then select the Files tab.

    The North Carolina Board of Nursing no longer issues wallet size license cards or mail licensure certificates for Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses.

  15. I need to reprint my Identification Document, how can I do this?

    You can reprint your Identification Document by completing the steps below:

    • Access your Nurse Gateway portal
    • Select the tile labeled 'RN/LPN NCLEX CANDIDATE'
    • Select the Exam Status tab, then select View/Reprint Application
  16. I need to reprint my Live Scan forms, how can I do this?

    Access-Log in to your Nurse Gateway portal

    • Access, print and sign your Live Scan Application forms which include (1) 'Electronic Fingerprint Submission Release of Information' and (2) 'Applicant Information'
    • Select the tile labeled CBC under the Criminal Background Checks tab
    • Select the Files tab to access your prefilled Live Scan Application forms
  17. I recently submitted my application and I am attempting to log into the Nurse Gateway to pay the application fee; Where can I do this?

    You selected the third-party payment option which requires a certified check or money order. Your application WILL NOT be processed until payment is received and processed by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Once payment has been received, please allow 3-5 banking days for payment to clear and then your application will be processed.

    Instruct your third-party that payment forms accepted are: Visa, MasterCard, or Company check. For payments via credit card, access the Credit Card Payment Form. We are only able to accept fax for this form.
