Board and Committee Meetings

The North Carolina Board of Nursing holds its Board and Committee meetings at the Board of Nursing office located at:

North Carolina Board of Nursing
4516 Lake Boone Trail
Raleigh, NC 27607

Board Meetings

Board meetings are held each year in January, May and September. Board meetings are open to the public and individuals are encouraged to attend either the full meeting or the Open Comment Period.

Open Comment Period

The purpose of the Open Comment Period is to provide members of the nursing community an opportunity to bring issues of concern to the Board. Individuals are encouraged to share their concerns, offer views and present questions regarding issues that impact nursing and nursing regulation.

How to speak during the Open Comment Period

This is an opportunity for open exchange of ideas; there is no pre-established agenda, but we do ask that anyone wishing to speak at the Open Comment Period notify the Board of Nursing. Educators/students from schools of nursing, representatives from associations/councils, nursing executives from various settings, as well as members of the public are invited to attend. Written comments must be submitted on the day of the Open Comment Period. Individuals will have five (5) minutes to address the Board.

  • To contact the Board of Nursing to speak, or to obtain additional information related to attendance, please send an email to meetings@ncbon.com no later than 3 business days prior to the meeting date listed below. Please include the following information:
    • Full name
    • If representing an organization, the name of the organization
    • Telephone number during business hours
    • Email address
    • Topic for presentation (if applicable)

Due to the limited space and seating for meetings, the Board of Nursing is pleased to offer live streaming. Live streaming allows large groups to observe the meeting from any location with an internet connection.

Committee Meetings

Most of the Board’s work is accomplished through the Committee process. Occasionally, the Board may convene a special task force to accomplish specific objectives within a specified time frame. Members of the health care field and/or interested parties may be appointed to serve on both Advisory Committees and Task Forces.

Hearing Committee

The purpose of the Hearing Committee is to receive evidence in contested cases and present a recommended decision, which includes Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law, to the Board for a vote on the final action.  These recommended decisions and their outcomes are considered public record and by such will be open to the public to view, in-person recommended.
