Discipline Action Log

To provide the public access to information on licensees with disciplinary action, the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) maintains a record of all licensed nurses who have been subject to discipline by the NCBON. This list includes North Carolina licensees whose licenses have been suspended, revoked, reprimanded, or sanctioned by the NCBON based on violations of the Nursing Practice Act (NPA) and Administrative Code.

When it is determined that a licensed nurse has failed to uphold nursing standards, the Board may take action on the license to maintain the integrity of the nursing profession. Disciplinary actions following a violation of the NPA and Administrative Code support the NCBON's mission of protecting the public by regulating the practice of nursing.

Disciplinary actions result in one of three ways:

1. Published Consent Order

These actions arise when a licensee voluntarily agrees to a Published Consent Order with the NCBON. This formal agreement becomes a public record, indicating the licensee’s cooperation in resolving the matter.

2. Final Decision and Order

This action occurs when a case goes through the NCBON’s formal adjudicative process. If the licensee does not voluntarily enter into a disciplinary order, the NCBON will determine the outcome through an administrative hearing and issue a Final Decision and Order.

3. Summary Suspensions

The Board may issue summary suspensions when immediate action is necessary to protect the public. These temporary suspensions occur prior to a final hearing and remain in effect until a final resolution of the case is entered.

Each Order includes findings of fact, the laws and rules violated, and the disciplinary action taken. The Disciplinary Action Log is regularly updated and made publicly available to promote transparency and accountability.

This Log includes the last 100 resolved cases; however, a search function is available to verify a nurse's current license status or to check for any prior disciplinary actions.
